In 2006 Fred and I thought it would be fun to meet other Untourists for lunch. We check the Idyllchat for people who lived in our area of Massachusetts or perhaps New Hampshire. We had been emailing back and forth for over a year with a couple from New Hampshire, Idabella and Bert. They agreed to met us for lunch at the Common Man in Concord, NH; we sat over 2…

We spent part of our morning visiting the Bruggers. We exchanged photos of our families and had a very nice visit with them; we had brought a small family album with us. Ernst showed us pictures from the Swiss newspaper of festivals, and parades. These parades were held between Chr…

Monday, August 21st we returned to Meiringen, Switzerland for our third Untours Adventure. We left Boston a day early and stayed overnight at the Allegra Hotel in Kloten (very near the airport).

As you might have guessed my agenda has been a bit crowded sins NBC came to town. But I am going to get around to the assignment you have given me,,,Soon!

You and all the other clients were on your way to the Untours party in Sachseln, and I was on my way to Hotel Allegra.
I really miss Switzerland and the hiking...hopefully I get to go back next year.
Switzerland as much as I love Italy. Your pictures
are wonderful. I rarely take pictures, but now have
a digital camera that I can hook up to my computer,
so will do better in the future.
2008 except we certainly plan to be there. J&S

Thanks for the note. Our first Untour was Swiss Heartland, so CH will always be very special to us. We learned that it wasn't so scarey to travel in Europe afterall. As soon as I have a chance I will read your new triplogs. They look great. This past weekend since we returned has been action packed....some parts I don't want to repeat again. :-)
Talk more later. Marlene
I don't remember how much I wrote about my first trip to Meiringen in September 1975, so I'll start from the beginning. I put a classified ad in the NY Times, and another in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the ads reading in words to this effect:"Experimental travel program to Switzerland. You go at cost: $575/person double occupancy includes: RT air on Swissair, JFK/Zurich, a Swiss transportation pass covers all of Switzerland (rail, bus, lake ships), three weeks in a vacation apartment, in a charming Alpine village, from which you can make day trips." I got one couple from each newspaper and two single friends of mine shared an apartment, i.e., we had three Meiringen apartments total. Each evening I stopped by the apartments of the two couples to advise about day trips on a daily basis and of course consulted with (sometimes traveled with) my roommates. Most of my time was spent trying to line up apartments for the May-October season, 1976--hard work using my unintelligible German. Taking a clue from the popular movie "Since today is Tuesday, this must be Belgium" one of my roommates, suggested, "Hal you should do to the tour business what Seven Up did to the colas. Call your new travel program "Untours."
Jean, if I were to hear a ground swell from members of "Cafe Untours" I would write more about how this first trip and the experimental stuff we did in 1976 helped me lay the groundwork for the Untours that exist today..
