What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
Meiringen Switzerland
Where would you most like to go next?
Meiringen Switzerland
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. A favorite host? Apartment? Village?
Lydia and Ernst Brugger are very dear couple, who treat you like family. They are a wonderful host. Our village is Meiringen, and
when we arrive there, it is like coming "home".
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
Taking pictures of course, the scenery, mountains everywhere--many walks, not hikes, riding the trains and buses. And most of all the food!!! Migros market, bakeries, and candy are always on our list.
What is the funniest thing that happened to you on an Untour?
While in Meiringen, we saw a farmer chasing his cows down the
Bahnhofstrasse, the cows had escaped from the nearby pasture.
The cars had stopped and everyone waited patiently while the farmer
herded them in to the barn. I even had a chance to take a picture of
this fun incident.
Which Untours have you already done?
(3) Untours to Meiringen 2002, 2004 and 2006
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Once you travel with Untours, you will be back, again and again!!
Just pick up the phone and call --you will have more, and more great
advice and information from the staff in Media, PA.
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
Heartland Switzerland

Lunch with Untourists

In 2006 Fred and I thought it would be fun to meet other Untourists for lunch. We check the Idyllchat for people who lived in our area of Massachusetts or perhaps New Hampshire. We had been emailing back and forth for over a year with a couple from New Hampshire, Idabella and Bert. They agreed to met us for lunch at the Common Man in Concord, NH; we sat over 2…

Switzerland 2004-Heartland Triplog Part 2

Sunday, August 29th

We spent part of our morning visiting the Bruggers. We exchanged photos of our families and had a very nice visit with them; we had brought a small family album with us. Ernst showed us pictures from the Swiss newspaper of festivals, and parades. These parades were held between Chr

Thanks for your welcome, Jean and Fred. Switzerland is hard not to love, though Eric really liked our first Untour, which was the Castle. I have put the Swiss Oberland on our "list", but there are so very many places we want to go, we haven't allowed ourselves the luxury yet of repeating trips.

Thanks for inviting us to be your "friends!" Switzerland is a locale we have yet to experience. From all the praise it gets from untourists on Idyllchat, it is certainly on our to-see list. We will benefit from your wonderful comments.

I met you once very briefly in Switzerland.
You and all the other clients were on your way to the Untours party in Sachseln, and I was on my way to Hotel Allegra.
I really miss Switzerland and the hiking...hopefully I get to go back next year.

Thanks so much for asking! It's so nice to make such good new friends. Looks like you love
Switzerland as much as I love Italy. Your pictures
are wonderful. I rarely take pictures, but now have
a digital camera that I can hook up to my computer,
so will do better in the future.

No doubt we will see you again. This summer we'll be in Meiringen August 15 to 29. And great news for us our son and family will be in Reuti then. Don't know about
2008 except we certainly plan to be there. J&S

I know I'll always enjoy your postings. And of course you've been my friend for a long time now. My grandson helped me figure out this site this weekend. But there's a lot I don't know!!!

Hi Jean,
Thanks for the note. Our first Untour was Swiss Heartland, so CH will always be very special to us. We learned that it wasn't so scarey to travel in Europe afterall. As soon as I have a chance I will read your new triplogs. They look great. This past weekend since we returned has been action packed....some parts I don't want to repeat again. :-)
Talk more later. Marlene

Jean:
I don't remember how much I wrote about my first trip to Meiringen in September 1975, so I'll start from the beginning. I put a classified ad in the NY Times, and another in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the ads reading in words to this effect:"Experimental travel program to Switzerland. You go at cost: $575/person double occupancy includes: RT air on Swissair, JFK/Zurich, a Swiss transportation pass covers all of Switzerland (rail, bus, lake ships), three weeks in a vacation apartment, in a charming Alpine village, from which you can make day trips." I got one couple from each newspaper and two single friends of mine shared an apartment, i.e., we had three Meiringen apartments total. Each evening I stopped by the apartments of the two couples to advise about day trips on a daily basis and of course consulted with (sometimes traveled with) my roommates. Most of my time was spent trying to line up apartments for the May-October season, 1976--hard work using my unintelligible German. Taking a clue from the popular movie "Since today is Tuesday, this must be Belgium" one of my roommates, suggested, "Hal you should do to the tour business what Seven Up did to the colas. Call your new travel program "Untours."
Jean, if I were to hear a ground swell from members of "Cafe Untours" I would write more about how this first trip and the experimental stuff we did in 1976 helped me lay the groundwork for the Untours that exist today..
