What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
Italy. I love Rome, Venice, Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast. I would like to get back to Portugal and Spain too.
Where would you most like to go next?
Prague or Budapest and of course back to Italy.
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. A favorite host? Apartment? Village?
We enjoyed our neighborhood in Leiden. It didn't take us long to feel comfortable shopping the markets and recycling our garbage!
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
Medieval and Renaissance history, architecture and local cooking.
What is the funniest thing that happened to you on an Untour?
When in Brugge, we took the tour through the medieval brewery. After being the first to climb down a steep ladder, the waiting guide asked me where I was from. When I said Boston, she immediately said "Sam Adams - very very good beer." Quite the praise for an American beer from a native of Belgium!
Which Untours have you already done?
Leiden, The Netherlands
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
It's a great way to travel, but do some homework ahead of time so you will make sure to get to see what you want. Plan to live like a local and that means having a great time as well as making the occasional mistake. Chalk it up to learning while having a great time.
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
We only have done one so far and that was Leiden, The Netherlands. Those villas in Tuscany are beckoning me though!

I would love to share some of my Ipswich and Essex places with you. I have both seafood and wolves on my mind ! And of course anything I can share on Leiden. Tentatively my friend and I are looking at Budapest and Prague next fall but if that doesn't work I can always be tempted back into Italy. I have been there seven times and always want to go back. I'd like to figure out how to retire there.

Thanks for your comments on my Rockport blog post, Sally. What a beautiful place to live so close to. Ipswich is definitely now on our 'to see' list next time we head to MA. We love discovering beautiful places not too far from home. I've sent you a friend request and hope that when we're able to plan a trip to Leiden you'll be able to share with us some of your favorite things to see and do there. Prague and Budapest are also high on my list of places to visit someday in the very near future. I agree with you on Italy too - there's just no place quite like it.

Good morning, Sally. First of all, thanks for being my "friend."

I have enjoyed your video's tremendously. I would like to know what application or website you used to create them so that you could include your personal commentary. This past year I learned to make DVDs for my family of photos with my commentary in the background, using Microsoft Photo Story. Is that what you used? Was it difficult to upload to the Untour Cafe?

Well, just do it - you'll never regret a moment there.
I won't get near the Amalfi Coast - I'd be on the
floor boards the entire time! Also did Rome this
year for just a short visit with old friends, usually
make it at least once a year, but it is so crowded -
you might want to check Orvieto if you haven't
been there yet. One good thing about Tuscany
South is that you can drive a short distance to
Chiusi, park you car at the railroad station, and
take the train to Rome for one or more days and
then go back to Chiusi, get your car and go back
to your apartment. Haven't done it that way but
understand it works good.

I think you're spot on with the advice to be ready to make mistakes. I know I've certainly separated my recycling wrong in Germany before. Oops!
