Hi Ed!

Welcome to the Untours Cafe! I hope you'll have as much fun hanging out here as I do. Take your time to explore some of the photos, and videos. If you like, you can even post a question or start a discussion in our forum.

If you have a chance, fill out some more of the questions in your profile so that others can learn a bit more about you, and you can also set up a picture of yourself for your page to personalize it a bit.

If you're interested in traveling to a specific place, if you've got a favorite Untour, or if you want to connect with other Untourists going somewhere, join a destination group! My favorite place in Europe is probably Hamburg -- have you ever been to that part of Germany?

If you run into any problems or have any question, you can send me a message or ask my colleagues, Marilee, Sue, Powen (me), & Kim. We're here to help!

Hi Powen
My wife and I are setting up a trip to Kuchl- Seiwald this fall (Oct. 8-22). We are looking to gather as much information as we can prior to the trip. I have been in this part of Europe during my military days (69-70). I want to take my wife to see some of the sights plus see some new things I have not seen. I have not had time to complete my profile but I am working on it. Are you on staff or a traveler? Ed

Hi Ed!

I almost missed your comment, but I clicked onto your page because I saw your new picture (it's great!).

I'm on staff, but I'm also (and always will be) a traveler! There's so much to see in that part of Austria. I was there at pretty much the same time last year. I was lucky to have a week of brisk weather and endless sunshine. I have a few photos up so you can see what it was like. I'm also interested in photography, so I hope you'll enjoy these pictures:

Definitely don't miss the trip to Hallstatt, and the view from the top of Hohensalzburg is amazing.

Hi Powen
Maybe you can tell from the photo that I am a Mac user. I really don't look like Jay Lenno. Thanks for sending the photos. I saw most of the photos you have on your site. I got a new Canon 40D for Christmas, so we went to Hawaii to try it out. I am still learning a lot of the new features but it worked well. I was in Salzburg during the service but I am not familiar with the surrounding area in Austria. I was over in Southeast Germany and know of many areas to see there. Do you have any areas you would recommend? I have not been to Hallstatt or Hohensalzburg. I am interested in landscapes and unique structures. I am not a museum kind of guy.

Thanks Ed for the nice comments. With our travels still going on, I just haven't had the chance to do anything at all with our Austria Trip. We had a great time and saw a lot of places. Yes we do need to compare. BarkerhouseBob was there at the same time we were so we'll have another comparison.
I need to take some time to look at everyone's photos and blogs that I've missed in the past couple months.
Talk to you again.

Ed, did you see the blog post outlining the photo contest? I'm going to post my answers to your questions there so that others will also see them.

Hi Ed, Happy to have you as a new friend. We have done all three Swiss Untours and would be hard pressed to choose a favorite although the Heartland was the one that made me feel most a part of the mountain community. We stayed on the Hasliberg and it is like living in a Swiss fantasy. Our very first Untour way back in '92 was to Austria so I enjoyed reliving it through your excellent pictures. We stayed in Kuchl and remember that wonderful main street so well. Think our favorite day trip was to Hallstatt. We rented one of those little pedal boats early in the morning and I will never ever forget the views from the water. No digital camera then though - so I am happy to have your photos to bring back the memories.

Ed,
I am new to this blog. I saw your photo. How did you do that? It's pretty funny! Shows what a sense of humor you have. Humor is an absolute most in this life!

Ed. we were In Meiringen Switzerland, from Meiringen you can take the cable car and lifts up to the Alpen Tower. At the Alpen Tower there is a wonderful brunch served. Shirley Thornton and I went for the lunch, and this is where we took the picture, outside on the gravel path. The brunch was great, 38 Swiss francs, but that includes the 3 lifts up and back to Meiringen. So it was worth it, So glad you like the picture. Jean and Fred

hi again, so glad you were able to zero in on the Alpen Tower using Google Earth--- we haven't tried that as yet--- but will certainly check it out in the future. Jean and Fred
