Great trip log, it felt like we were on the trip with you and Morris-- we have had 4 trips to Meiringen, and would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing your adventures with the Cafe. Fred and Jean Agneta

I looked up the palinka and kielbasa festival on the internet and discovered that it was held for the third time in 2009. It does not look like there will be one in 2010. However, go to the following website and search for festivals during the perio…

We are doing the Budapest Untour in early October as you did (but only for one week). I was in Budapest in July/August 1990 so am anxious to see how things have changed since the early days after the departure of the Soviets. It was very exciting th…

Untours published its own Swiss Hiking Guide which we found useful during our stay in the Swiss Heartland last fall. If you are going to Switzerland with Untours, you will receive a copy automatically.

This fantastic work of art was done by Varga. And for those who want to see more of Varga's work, which is unbelievable, he has a museum in Obuda. Its definitely worth a visit. In Obuda there is also the Vasarely Museum and a Folk Museum. John Rybcz…

Profile Information

What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
I love Switzerland because of the excellent public transportation, the spectacular scenery, and the wonderful hiking trails.
Where would you most like to go next?
Paris
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
I stayed in Meiringen, Switzerland which was a great base for making day trips.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
I love walking and hiking. My husband and I walked on great hiking trails in Switzerland, along Italy's Cinque Terre, among the Roman ruins in Trier (Germany), and for seven miles through the landscaped park from Valtice to Lednice in the Czech Republic (UNESCO World Heritage Site). I also love desserts and my husband, an amateur photographer, has taken great pictures of the desserts and tea that we enjoyed at outdoor cafes. I make scrapbooks of our travels, giving me a chance to re-live the trips and share my experiences with friends.
When you upload photos to Untours Cafe, you are also giving Untours permission to use the photos in their promotional material (with credit to you)
We thought we were going to a Pancake and Sausage Festival in Budapest and it turned out to be a schnapps (palinka) and sausage festival.
Which Untours have you already done?
Swiss Heartland
Budapest
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Untours is great. Living in an apartment is so much better than taking a guided tour. Try an Untour and you won't be disappointed.
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
Swiss Heartland

Budapest fall 2008

Our first Untours experience was in Budapest where we stayed in an apartment that was conveniently located near public transportation, grocery and convenience stores, and restaurants. Two weeks allowed us time to visit main tourist attractions as well as explore places off the beaten track. The Hungarian language was difficult and the currency made us feel like millionaires since one dollar purchased about 180 Hungarian forints. The weather was ideal for walking, sightseeing, and enjoying outdoo… Continue

I hope you get the opportunity to visit Budapest. You will enjoy it. Beautiful city with much to see, as is the case in all of Europe.

Hi Vicki,

Welcome to the Untours Cafe! I hope you'll have as much fun here as I do. Take your time and explore some of the photos, and videos. If you like, you can even post a question or start a discussion in our forum.

When you have a chance, fill out some of the questions in your profile so that others can learn a bit more about you, and you can also set up a picture of yourself for your page to personalize it a bit. It helps us put a face to the name.

Are you interested in traveling to a specific place? Do you already have a favorite Untour? To connect with other Untourists going there (or who also just love it), join a destination group!

If you run into any problems or have any question, you can send me a message or ask my colleagues, Marilee, Sue, & Kim. We're here to help!

Be sure to visit the Hungarian Horse Riding Show. It is a must. My husband and I were on a river cruise and our boat made a stop in Budapest. The tour guide booked this for us. We have not been on an Untour Tour yet, but we plan to in the future.
