Chris, I think you will be happy with Travel Guard. They are a reputable company with a good reputation. We have always been able to reach them 24/7 and speak directly to a live person. Someone literally walked us through the claim filing process, s…

You will never regret not buying travel insurance UNTIL you need it!!! You never know when that will be. This past spring we had planned a trip to Amsterdam for about 10 days (not through Untours -all their spots were booked for the tulip season- we…

Hi Bill and Marge, just looked at your photos from Sachseln. Albert looks well, though so sad to see pictures of Berit's grave. Jessica was our Untours rep on our Heartland trip in '04, and we also saw her again at the airport the following year whe…

Amsterdam

Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
We loved our first visit to the Swiss Heartland in the fall of 2004, staying in the Schalin apartment in Sachseln. Our hosts, Luise and Niklaus, were warm, caring, and very helpful. The apartment was spacious, bright, and immaculate. In fact, we liked Switzerland so much, we returned the following spring to Ticino.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
For the past two years Eric has been a special correspondent writing travel articles for a local, weekly newspaper. So now we keep a much more thorough journal, take more pictures, and talk with the local people in order to incorporate them into his articles.
When you upload photos to Untours Cafe, you are also giving Untours permission to use the photos in their promotional material (with credit to you)
While taking the chairlift down from a mountaintop restaurant in Lungern late one cloudy afternoon (they were about to close for the day), the lift suddenly stopped. We were the only ones on it, and were several hundred feet above a cow pasture, there was nothing else in sight except cows. We sat there for about 15 minutes in a chilly breeze, wondering if they closed and we had been forgotten, when suddenly it started up and wisked us to the stop. The operator was so apologetic he drove us straight to the train station. He never did say they forgot us, but we suspect they did.
Which Untours have you already done?
Castle
Swiss Heartland
Swiss Ticino
Venice
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Go with a spirit of adventure!!
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)

Why is it when I go to "Trip Blogs" at the heading at the top of the page there is nothing there?. Am I doing something wrong.??
Sometimes I just want to see recent blog posts, without searching for a specific topic.
Any suggestions?
Sue

Hi Sue and Eric-
I thought long and hard and realized that I really needed to return to Venice, as you said, while the parts are still working. I'm 60 now with knee problems so those bridges really get to me. I have made some friends on the Venice forum on tripadvisor.com who invited me over to their "off topic chatter". I am now a member of the "sisterhood of the travelling scarves". There are about 15 of us from all over the world. Yvonne just had a narrow escape from the bushfires in Australia, Kathleen from Ireland is going to meet me in Venice as are several others. A group of 10 of them are meeting in Rome in about a week. They all met on line and share a love of Italy.
This December I'm spending a week in Hilo, Hawaii to check out my possible retirement options. I hope to be escaping Seattle weather in about five years. This years snow really did me in. I had about a foot and a half during mid December and missed five days of work because I couldn't get there. It's still cool, in the 40's but today was bright and sunny.
Oh, yes, I have prebooked the Casino apartment. No, haven't been to either Ireland or Holland although both are places I would love to see. I hope to go to India in 2012 and be at the Taj Mahal for my birthday on 12-12-12. We'll see if that happens. Like you there are some places I really have no desire to go but I have often said if someone wants to give me a free ticket somewhere I'll be happy to go.
Yes, do keep in touch.
Always,
Michelle

Hi Sue and Eric,
Thanks for touching base with me. Such a small world. No, I have not traveled with untours yet. I look forward to in the future. I'd read about them in the Richmond TD a few years ago and have kept up with trips and news since then. It is good for me to know there is a service like this one available. It's also good to hear first hand experiences. Do you have any trips planned soon? I will be in CA and AZ in April, but nothing overseas at this time. Thanks again for writing.
JoAnn
