We have taken walking sticks to Switzerland twicw with no problem. Ours are the type that break down into 3 sections. We put corks on the pointed ends and lay the three sections kitty corner in the bottom of the carry on as they seem to fit best tha…

Profile Information

What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
After 5 trips (not all Untours) all of Germany.
Where would you most like to go next?
Swiss Oberland or Austria
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
We loved staying in Meiringen, Swiss Heartland. The Chalet Margrit was our favorite apartment we have had of our 6 Untours. We also really enjoyed the Gracieuse apartment in Paris primarily for it's great proximity to the Metro and Rue Mouffetard where we purchased the sweetest strawberries that we had eaten in many a year. Right from the fields, they were.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
We like to take at least one round trip city bus trip to see what the suburbs and the path to them look like. We seem to get a little feel for the native life this way. And, we try to squeeze as mant ethnical museums that we can.
What is the funniest thing that happened to you on an Untour?
After a day trip ,when returning to Leiden, in Holland, we rushed to jump on the about to depart bus parked in the bay where we always caught our return bus to the apartment area. Hah! We hadn't looked at the bus number and ended up on a 45 minute bus trip through the countryside to the end of the line in some village we had never heard of. While we like to take strange bus trips this was not one we had planned as we had to be back at our apartment at a set time to join the rest of the Untourists for the Idyll sponsored Indonesian dinner. So we got off the bus, asked which of the many parked there would return us to Leiden and were directed back to the bus we had just gotten off of. The driver just shook his head, charged us 8 Euros (we had used the last of our strippencarts to get to this unknown destination) and headed back to Leiden. It was a fast walk to the apartment from the bus station to make dinner in time. We never found out where we had been but had many a chuckle over the error we so called "savvy" tourists had made.
Which Untours have you already done?
We have done the Rhine tour, the two week Prague tour, two Swiss Heartland tours, the Paris tour and the Holland tour.
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Don't worry at all about language or cultural differences. You'll find neither one of them to be a problem. Just put on your travelling shoes and GO!
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
Toss up between Prague and Swiss Heartland

Welcome to the Untours Cafe! It's wonderful to have veteran Untourists here with us. Take your time and explore some of the photos, and videos. If you like, you can even post a question or start a discussion in our forum.

Are you interested in traveling to a specific place? Do you already have a favorite Untour? To connect with other Untourists going there (or who also just love it), join a destination group! If you have a question (or just something to say) about a specific Untour, each destination has its own forum.

Thanks for filling out so much of your profile! That's quite a funny story with the bus -- I've definitely had the same thing happen to me on trains and metros. Good thing you could get back in time for the Indonesian dinner. When you have a chance, you can also set up a picture of yourself for your page to personalize it a bit. It helps us put a face to the name!

If you run into any problems or have any question, you can send me a message or ask my colleagues, Marilee, Sue, & Kim. We're here to help!

Hi Nina, thanks for your kind words about the Trip Logs, it was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed doing it. although it was quite long and a lot of pictures.
Now you will have to go back to Switzerland and see Shirley and Charmaine and Tom. Thanks again, Jean and Fred
