I can't think of a better way to holiday in Europe (or actually anywhere in the world) than in the style of Untours. You do have to buy into the style however. You will not have daily housekeeping if you don't make the bed or wash the coffee pot. Yo…

I'm with them on eels and herring - but I have tried both. Have a funny story about eels. One of the eleven year olds given my challenge could notdecide between eel and asparagus to be his "not-asked-to-try" item. I wasn't going to confirm his deci…

Have traveled to the Netherlands with my children and other kids. Took a delegation of 4 11-year-olds (none my own) to a month long international camp but had a few days before and after where it was just me and the kids. I wouldn't worry about see…

We're off to The Bavarian Castle in a couple more weeks. Can any one recommend a guidebook that you have found to be particularly good? All the books I've seen spend a lot of pages on Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber and maybe a page and a half on Augsberg…

Check out NYT Travel section, page 5. Story about castle holidays in Germany features castle photo and interview with the baron among others. I'm having a hard time containing my peparation excitement for our October Schloss Untour! Wish we were le…

Where kids want to be is where they are prepared to understand what to expect. My two boys each had their first European experience at age 11. They had wonderful times exploring, putting classroom book learning into use where the lesson originated,…

We stayed at the Castle in the Carola apt on our first Untour in 2002. I must honestly say I don't remember all the details about the kitchen, except it had the smallest dishwasher I had ever seen. Like most Untourists, we tend to eat our big meal o…

In our Untours to the Swiss Heartland (2002 and 2004) and Paris 2008), we usually had breakfast and a light dinner at the apartment or chalet. Lunch was either a picnic or a nice meal at a restaurant. This plan resulted in a big budget saving. We ac…

We have been on 3 untours and have developed a pattern. We use the kitchen for breakfast and snacks. We eat a large meal midafternoon and very light at dinner time. We have never had a problem with the kitchen facilities. We are foodies and occasion…

Thanx - this is exactly what I am trying to learn. I can deal with a strange collection of kitchen ware. Give me cheese, wine (or local beer), good bread and sweet butter and I can make it for a long time. A local trout or sausage and I'm in heaven.…

Hi Lukehead,
Welcome to the Untours Cafe! I hope you'll enjoy hanging out here as much as I do. Sit back, relax, and take a few moments to look at some of the amazing photos and videos people are uploading. Or check out some of the really interesting discussions in both the forum and our destination pages.

If you are looking for some content in particular the Search box in the upper right, and the “Help” tab are good ways to get started. We love to be of help so don’t hesitate to ask us (either via email or on the forum) if you have trouble with anything. There are plenty of really friendly people who will be glad to lend a hand! We're still trying to figure out how to serve you some coffee or tea through the computer screen, but in the meantime, have fun!

Cheers,
Kim Paschen
