Are there many Wi Fi hotspots in the Swiss Heartland? Would it be worth while to bring a laptop? Thought it might be convient to have to look up rail schedules, etc.

Most banks, likely for free if you look like a tourist! Libraries, almost every where. Cafes, a lot. In the high mountains? Sometimes. In a village, almost always at least one spot.
Thanks for the reply. I think we can look like tourists even though we try not to. Good to know there are plenty of libraries and that cafes have hot spots.
The funniest spot I have seen in the Heartland is at Murren. The lift station which takes you up to the Schilthorn or down to Lauterbrunen valley has an old gondala car sitting next to the waiting line entrance to the lift(s) that has internet access. You don't want to know the cost per minute.!
There are numerous WiFi hot spot locator websites for travelers. Heaven forbid you are in a Starbucks during your trip, but there is access.
Personally I would not lug a lap top, but everyone has their own reasons for doing so. Those little Notebooks are looking better. Last year my iPod Touch was an absolute wonder, helping me during an emergency at home (thanks to Vance's WiFi). Since we stay four weeks it was nice to keep up with our Giants (baseball). At breakfast we connected, watched the last innings of night games via an MLB App. Finally, an electronic device has captured my husband's cyber-interest!
