We stayed on Lake Thun in Gunten at the Zimmerman apartment. It was an excellent location for travel to all parts of the Oberland. If you go to Destinations, then Switzerland, then the question about Gunten on Lake Thun, you will see my response to another Untourist.

We liked Chalet Alpentraum in Kandersteg. Outstanding views, relaxing, good landlords, close to train station and shopping. There is also plenty of room to spread out. Only 1 bathroom, but this is fine. There is a huge balcony w/ chairs and table to enjoy the views (which are btw incredible from every window). A unique feature is a dishwasher, and large kitchen.

We tried to get in there for this year, but it was already full. We are staying at the Esther in Frutigen in 2 weeks. This looks good to me also.....

We stayed in the Bartlome apt in Gwatt. This is a small town very near Thun and located on Lake Thun. Susi Bartlome is the most wonderful person. She speaks very good English and is so helpful. She has a cozy apt on the 3rd floor of her house. It is small but very comfortable. There are great views of the mountains from the apt.
The location is fantastic. It is very convenient for getting anywhere easily. You can get on a bus almost in front of the apartment and go to either Thun or Spiez. Both of these towns have train stations to take you where you are planning to go for the day. The bus also takes you to the boat station for boat rides on Lake Thun. There is a convenient small grocery store near the bus stop.
